Microchipping is now a legal requirement for all dogs over the age of eight weeks. We also provide microchipping for cats and other small animals.
A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of basmati rice, which is inserted under the skin and which when read with an electrical scanner reveals a 15-digit number which is unique to your pet.
The chip is inserted with a special needle and doesn’t need an anaesthetic – we can even do puppies and kittens when they come in for vaccination.
Microchipping is now a legal requirement for all dogs over the age of eight weeks, and we have so many happy stories of reuniting pets with their owners purely because their owners had the good sense to have them microchipped.
We use the Tracer brand of microchips which are automatically logged onto the Petlog system on the day of implantation. Petlog is the largest national database of microchips though, as a veterinary surgery, we can also access the many smaller databases that are springing up around the country.
There is no good reason not to microchip your pets so do ask at reception for details.
